K2 and the Invisible Footmen

In the Summer of 2014, I trekked to K2 base camp in Pakistan and was taken by the strength and good spirits of these men called porters. While my sister and filmmaker, Iara Lee, was shooting a documentary on them, I observed. They carried an average of 25 kilos on their backs with grace and agility, everyday, for many hours. Their intimacy with the mountains and their many different terrains led their pace with certainty. In turn, I followed them and trust them with my life. Only they could lead us through the 200 kilometers stretch and deliver us alive to the foot of the infamous K2, 5200 meters above sea level.

This is a tribute to them.
